Dollars in Pharmaceutical Products to Haiti Relief
Big Flats, NY – (February 10, 2010) - X-GEN Pharmaceuticals Inc. recently announced that donations, totaling over half a million dollars, have been given to two charities supporting medical relief efforts in Haiti. A product donation valued at $485,553.50 was given to the North Star Foundation, and an additional product donation of $72,205.20 was given to the AmeriCares organization. The products provided by X-GEN will be used by doctors and other medical professionals in Haiti to treat a variety of patient needs including surgery, antibiotic and anti-infective treatments, and nutritional supplements for children and adults.
X-GEN proudly contributed nearly $500,000 in pharmaceutical products to The North Star Foundation. The North Star Foundation is a non-profit partner of Kingsway Charities, a Christian charity solely focused on distributing medicines and supplies to areas that need it most. Healthcare volunteers in Haiti will use the products to treat patients with bacterial infections, patients undergoing surgery and patients with Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
X-GEN also made a product donation of $72,205.20 to the AmeriCares organization. AmeriCares is a non-profit organization that provides emergency healthcare, medicine and humanitarian aid to people around the world affected by epic disasters. To date AmeriCares has delivered over $11 million worth of medical aid to the citizens of Haiti. X-GEN supports AmeriCares relief efforts in Haiti by providing a variety of nutritional supplements and surgical medications.

The product is AP rated and equivalent to Diamox®¹ by Duramed Pharmaceuticals. Acetazolamide for Injection USP is indicated for adjunctive treatment of: edema due to congestive heart failure; drug-induced edema; centrencephalic epilepsies (petit mal, unlocalized seizures); chronic simple (open-angle) glaucoma, secondary glaucoma, and preoperatively in acute angle-closure glaucoma where delay of surgery is desired in order to lower intraocular pressure.
Acetazolamide for Injection USP is supplied as a sterile, preservative-free lyophilized powder. Each vial contains acetazolamide sodium equivalent to 500mg of acetazolamide. In accordance with the agreement, X-GEN will represent Eurand as its authorized exclusive distribution agent for its currently marketed unbranded product.
Consistent with the April 28, 2004 Federal Register Notification (as supplemented in October 2007), Eurand has both an IND and an NDA on file for a pancreatic enzyme product and is actively seeking regulatory approval.
